Code of conduct
We strictly adhere to the Egmont Code of Conduct when it comes to choosing our suppliers and sourcing our products. When we print a book, the manufacturer must agree to the following:
No child labour to manufacture Egmont products
Only employ persons whose presence is voluntary
Comply with applicable wage laws
Employees will be entitled to be treated with dignity and respect
Employees must be provided with a safe and healthy working environment
Suppliers must comply with any existing legislation and regulations regarding the protection of the environment
Working and overtime hours must comply with our code of conduct and with local laws
Egmont reserves the right to inspect the factory, dormitories, records and carry out audits
Egmont monitors very closely working and living conditions within printing factories throughout the world. We are committed to ensuring that bringing a beautiful book to a child’s hands in the Western world does not harm a child in another country.
Auditable standards
To continue this aim towards ethical manufacturing processes, Egmont worked with a group of ten publishers during 2004 to develop an industry recognized standard to which all suppliers must comply before they win work from any of those ten involved publishers.
This standard is now approved by the Publishers Association and is paving the way for many other publishing houses to commit to ethical and moral trading practices.
Tight supplier base
To ensure compliance to our code of conduct and safety initiatives we keep a tight supplier base. We look for long term partnerships where we can work together on continuous improvements in all areas of corporate responsibility, as well as the other corner-stone of Egmont’s reputation – quality.
