Egmont Publishing has acquired world rights in all languages for four books about minibeasts from CBeebies wildlife presenter and zoologist, Jess French.

Egmont did the deal with Gill McLay of the Bath Literary Agency. The first two books in the series, Fluttering Minibeast Adventures and Tickly Minibeast Adventures will publish in March 2016 with a further two books, Slimy Minibeast Adventures and Crawly Minibeast Adventures, publishing in March 2017. All four books will be published under Egmont’s non-fiction imprint, Red Shed.

The series takes children on an adventure into the world of minibeasts. Children will discover what lives in the depths of the pond, how many legs a millipede has and how spiders spin their silky webs. This series teaches readers all about life cycles, how to identify bugs and what makes each one special. Children can learn as they play by engaging in activities and crafts and playing with the pop-out minibeast model that comes with each book.

Alice Bartosinski, Editor at Egmont Publishing, commented: “With her CBeebies presenting background, zoologist Jess knows exactly how to grab the attention of pre-schoolers with lots of fascinating facts about minibeasts. She is also passionate about giving children from all backgrounds the opportunity to learn about these amazing creatures and has made sure that plenty of the bugs in her books can be found in urban environments.”

Jess French said of the deal: Minibeasts are amazing! I am so excited to introduce young readers to their weird and beautiful ways and to inspire them to explore, love and protect the natural world.”

Jess French is a bright new face in children’s television; she presents her own twenty episode series Minibeast Adventures with Jess on CBeebies. Jess has also been a guest presenter on high-profile TV shows Springwatch and Autumnwatch. She is a trained zoologist.

Fluttering Minibeast Adventures and Tickly Minibeast Adventures by Jess French will be published by Red Shed, an imprint of Egmont Publishing, in March 2016 in hardback for £6.99
